The Hitmen move into a tie for first place in the Central Division with the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 6-1 win over Kootenay on Tuesday
Cranbrook, BC - The Calgary Hitmen swept a home and home series with Kootenay beating the Ice 6-1 Tuesday night in Cranbrook at Western Financial Place.
Greg Chase scored a pair of goals for the second straight game while Brooks Macek and Victor Rask both had three points each picking up a goal and two assists.
After Kootenay opened the scoring midway through the first period, the Hitmen responded 11 seconds later on a goal from Pavlo Padakin and never looked back building period leads of 3-1 and 5-1.
Carson Samoridny also scored for Calgary while Cody Sylvester and Brady Brassart both chipped in a pair of assists.
Mack Shields, making his first start in seven games, made 30 saves to pick up the win as the Hitmen outshot Kootenay 41-31.
Calgary went 1-3 on the powerplay while killing all five chances for the Ice.
The Hitmen, now 19-6-1-2, are on the road Friday night in Edmonton. At 41 points they sit tied with the Oil Kings for first place in the WHL’s Central Division, just a single point back of the Eastern Conference leading Prince Albert Raiders.

The Hitmen then return to Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night to host the Oil Kings in the back half of a home and home series. Game time is 7 p.m. for TELUS Shake up the ‘Dome sponsored by Co-op and Citytv. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation for the Calgary Food Bank.
