On Monday morning, defending gold medallist Sweden announced Calgary Hitmen forward Victor Rask has been named to their 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship 25-man preliminary roster.
Rask is in the midst of his second season with the Hitmen. He started the 2012-13 season with Charolette Checkers (AHL) before being assigned back to Calgary. He played 10 games for the Checkers, scoring one goal and five points. He has suited up for six games with the Hitmen this year, notching one goal and four points in six games.
Rask is one of the six returnees this year, joining his fellow 2012 gold medallists Jeremy Boyce Rotevall, Sebastian Collberg, Filip Forsberg, William Karlsson and Rickard Rakell. He is also one of the six players representing North American teams at the tournament. Rask, forward Rakell, goalie Oscar Dansk, defenceman Rasmus Bengtsson, defenceman Hampus Lindholm, and forward Nick Sörensen have all been released from their respective clubs to join Team Sweden.
He is the lone WHL player representing Sweden.
"We are very happy that Victor will once again be able to represent his country at the World Junior tournament," said Hitmen head coach Mike Williamson. "It is a great opportunity for Victor to play with and against the best junior players and help Sweden defend their gold medal from last year."
Sweden's 25-man roster will be trimmed down to 20 skaters and 3 goalies prior to the start of the tournament.
