The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club opened their 2012 Training Camp today at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex, 5206 - 68 Street NE, with rookie fitness testing.  Over 75 Hitmen prospects, including all 10 of the 2012 bantam draft selections, were put through a series of five tests conducted by Hitmen strength and conditioning coach Sean Hope-Ross and the National Sports Development staff.  The top performers in each category are listed below.

135 lbs. Bench Press: Kyle Lissel (23 reps)
Chin-ups to Muscular Failure: Geordie Keane (23)
Broad Jump: Cole Zimmerman (2.54 metres)
Beep Test: Lawson McDonald, Addison Bazian, Andrew Jack, Shaun Cook (Stage 12)
Curl-ups to Muscular Failure: Ben Shushkovsky (79)

Rookie Camp on-ice practice sessions and games begin tomorrow, Friday, August 24 at 8:30 a.m.  The top rookies will advance to main camp which opens Saturday evening and concludes Tuesday, August 28 with the annual Calgary Hitmen Intra-Squad Game.

All on-ice Training Camp sessions, including the annual Intra-Squad Game, are free and open to the public.  Rosters will be available at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex.

Following Training Camp, the Hitmen will play a total of six pre-season games with the only local game taking place at WinSport (C.O.P.) on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. versus the Red Deer Rebels.  On Saturday, September 22, Calgary hosts division rival Kootenay Ice for the 2012-13 Adrenalin Source For Sports Home Opener.  Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
