Kisio joins 500 club
Scott Fisher, Calgary Sun
Kelly Kisio picked up his 500th win as GM of the Calgary Hitmen earlier this week.
But the architect of one of junior hockey's most successful franchises isn't much for reminiscing.
"It means I've been here for awhile," Kisio said with a chuckle. "I guess it means the organization has gone in the right direction for quite a few years."
A dozen, and counting.
The Hitmen should wrap up their 13th consecutive post-season appearance before the end of the month.
But Kisio's more interested in what's happening in right now. If he has 502 victories by Saturday night, he'll be a happy man.
The Hitmen created a three-way tie (with Medicine Hat and Kootenay) atop the Central Division standings after beating the Tigers 4-1 in the Gas City Thursday night.
Kris Foucault led the way with a goal and an assist while Tyler Fiddler, Tyler Shattock and Cody Sylvester also scored for the Hitmen. The Hitmen (35-16-2), Ice and Tigers all have 72 points, but Calgary has one game in hand over Kootenay and have played four fewer games than Medicine Hat.
The Hitmen host the Tigers for the second half of the home-and-home set Saturday night at the Dome (7 p.m., fan960.com).
Kisio said his team will have a good idea of where it deserves to be by the weekend.
"These last few games -- we had Brandon in the building, and beat Tri-City, one of the top teams in the league, winning in Swift Current, and now two against Medicine Hat -- it's a stretch where guys will find out where they stand in the league."
